  • openBIS is the central data management system in all the research projects in which I participate. This powerful and flexible tool enables us to do the following critical tasks easily: 1. Keep research data backed up using geo-redundant, near-line tape systems while also keeping several copies of the data on the fast parallel storage resources that are part of the computational resources; 2. Allow collaborators to upload and annotate data by themselves; 3. Monitor the data produced by scientific instruments and automatically make that data available to all project members; 4. Easily integrate openBIS with Jupyter notebooks with the pybis API; 5. Customise every aspect with the UI plugins and we have used these to allow users to submit workflows and upload data.
